The new 988 Suicide Hotline Goes Live July 16, 2022. This 988 will replace the existing 10-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (although people can continue using the old 800 number as well). Its launch comes about two years after the Federal National Suicide Hotline Designation Act passed in 2020.
This hotline will provide 24/7 free and confidential emotional support around the country to those in mental health distress. Individuals can call, text, or chat 988.
